AIMS Canada has had a busy quarter influencing several public engagement events on gender equity.
Karen Craggs-Milne, Head of AIMS Canada and Global Group Director of Gender Equality, Inclusion and Business Development, delivered a keynote speech on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) and its targets for achieving Gender Equality during the Peace by Piece 2017 Youth Summit. More than 140 young people from Newcomer and Leadership Development programs attended. They were presented with AIMS initiatives and leadership in gender equality in sciences. The talk was organized by the Toronto YMCA.
AIMS Canada also supported capacity building across the development sector in Canada by providing training and webinars on gender equality and inclusion and transformative programming. Craggs-Milne led workshops for the members of the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation from Nov. 15 to 17, the organization Development and Peace on Nov. 28 and the Inter-Council Network, a Canadian coalition of eight provincial and regional Councils for International Cooperation on Dec. 11. These sessions proved effective as Canadian NGOs learned how AIMS is using non-traditional investments to achieve SDG 5 and how to bring transformative gender programs that harmonizes with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy announced by the Hon. Marie-Claude Bibeau, Canada’s Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, on Jun. 9, 2017.
