Neil Turok, l’astrophysicien qui révolutionne la recherche en Afrique – Jeune Afrique

Dans le Centre de conférences de Kigali, où nous le rencontrons, il est pourtant venu parler d’un autre de ses dadas : l’Institut africain des sciences mathématiques (Aims). Cette université panafricaine d’un nouveau genre, il l’a fondée en 2003, en réponse à un défi lancé quelques années plus tôt par son père, l’homme politique Ben Turok. Ce dernier et sa femme venaient d’être élus députés. Dans la nouvelle Assemblée, le seul autre couple était celui de Nelson et Winnie Mandela… Les Turok ont beau être blancs, ce sont des figures de la lutte antiapartheid. « Mon père m’a dit : “Nous sommes le premier gouvernement noir à la tête d’une économie industrialisée. Nous devons réussir. Comment peux-tu aider ?” »
